Back Bay fishing in and around Destin is done on charter boats ranging from 20-30 feet in length. They are the same Charter boats that we list as 4 pack boats. They are called 4 packs because their fishing license covers up to 4 passengers and that is typically there max. These charter boats usually do not have bathrooms onboard and limited shade covering. Bay trips and 4 pack trips are typically 4-5 or 6 hrs. The boat supplies all of the tackle and bait, but if you would like to bring your
favorite pole or your fly rod, you are more than welcome to do so.
Back Bay fishing is typically done near Destin’s East Pass, the Destin Bridge, local bayous and Choctawhatchee bay. Back Bay, light tackle charters target speckled trout, redfish, jack crevelle, flounders and other inshore species. Light tackle fishing with live baits and live shrimp. The captain is right there to work one on one with you and help you to experience some great fishing.
The captains that run bay fishing and 4 pack trips are a bunch of hard working, hard fishing guys. They take their jobs and their customers very seriously. There are 8-12 boats in Destin that run bay fishing trips and inshore 4 pack trips that we trust and have confidence in. We book all of the good captains that Back Bay fish in Destin and we can get you set up on a good charter boat with a good captain.
4 PACKS
One of the ways to go fishing in Destin is on what’s called a 4-pack charter boat. These are typically smaller boats (20 to 30 ft) with outboard engines. They take 1-4 passengers and will either fish near inshore (1-15) miles in the Gulf of Mexico or fish in and around the East Pass inlet and Chowtahatchee Bay. These boats do private charters and group trips. They typically charter for around $110 -$120 an hour for up to 4 passengers. The 4 pack boats are a good option for smaller groups are or individuals who are looking for more of a one on one experience. They catch reef fish as well as do live bait trolling and it is a great way to go for 1 or 2 sportsmen or Dad & one or two kids.

Trips on 4 pack boats are typically ½ day trips fishing with light tackle for red snappers, groupers and live bait light tackle trolling for kings and Spanish mackerels in the Gulf, or speckled trout, redfish, jack crevelle and other inshore species in the bay
You will get light tackle action with the Captain right there by your side to help. The 4 packs can do it all and are a more economical option for smaller groups.
Trips on 4 pack boats are good for families, kids and family fishing who may not want to go too far and have the option of fishing close by or in inshore calmer waters. They are good when you have just a couple of guys or dad and the kids. These captains are flexible and can find the right conditions for your group to fish in to make sure you have a good time and get some good action.
Fly Fishing
Destin has a lot of different places to throw a fly and there are several captains that know fly-fishing and understand the angler’s needs.
Around the inlet at Destin’s East Pass as well as the near coastal waters immediately adjacent to the inlet can provide a very wide variety of species from cobia, jack crevelle, redfish, tarpon, sharks, king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, black fin tuna and bonitos.
The bay fishing boats typically carry the fly fisherman, though some cobia anglers fish off of bigger charter boats with towers.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We would be happy to book you with a good fly fishing guide on a good charter boat.
If you are staying along the Destin harbor, Harborwalk, the Emerald Grand, or out near Silver Shells, Sterling Shores, Pelican beach, Sandestin Beach resort, the Sandestin Hilton, Seaside or Grayton Beach, these Destin charter boats are docked in nearby Destin and can take you to some great one on one deep sea fishing and back bay fishing from the Destin Harbor.
